  1. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software 
  4. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue 
  5. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs 
  6. differ on details -- some request registration while others 
  7. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With 
  8. registration, you get anything from the simple right to 
  9. continue using the software to an updated program with 
  10. printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial 
  13. software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, 
  14. with a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware 
  15. authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial 
  16. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. 
  17. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) 
  18. The main difference is in the method of distribution. 
  19. The author specifically grants the right to copy and 
  20. distribute the software, either to all and sundry or 
  21. to a specific group. For example, some authors require 
  22. written permission before a commercial disk vendor may 
  23. copy their Shareware.

  25. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. 
  26. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, 
  27. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes 
  28. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. 
  29. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware 
  30. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the 
  31. product, you don't pay for it.

  43. no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it 
  44. with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or 
  45. as part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" 
  46. software is to provide personal computer users with quality 
  47. software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive 
  48. for programmers to continue to develop new products.  If you 
  49. find this program useful and find that you are using *World of Tarot* 
  50. and continue to use *World of Tarot* after a reasonable trial period, 
  51. you must make a registration payment of US$ 29.-to the author via 
  52. NORTHSTAR.  The US$ 29.- registration fee will license one copy for 
  53. use on any one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software 
  54. just like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by 
  55. any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location 
  56. to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one 
  57. location while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be 
  58. read by two different persons at the same time.

  60. Commercial users of *World of Tarot* must register and pay for 
  61. their copies of *World of Tarot* within 30 days of first use or 
  62. their license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made

  65. Anyone distributing *World of Tarot* for any kind of remuneration 
  66. must first contact the author via CIS 100120,411 for authorization. 
  67. This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors 
  68. recognized by the (ASP).
